Government Rejects Reports of Proposed India-Gulf Deep-Sea Energy Pipeline

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has categorically denied reports that India is pursuing a proposed deep-sea energy pipeline connecting Gujarat with Oman and other Gulf nations. The government clarified that no such project is under consideration and that no discussions or negotiations are taking place at any level.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) has firmly rejected media reports claiming that the Government of India is pursuing a proposed deep-sea energy pipeline linking the country with Gulf nations, stating that no such project is currently under consideration.

In an official clarification issued on Tuesday, the Ministry said it had taken note of a series of media reports suggesting that India was actively working on a deep-sea energy pipeline, sometimes referred to as the Middle East-India Deepwater Pipeline (MEIDP), which was reportedly intended to connect Gujarat with Oman and other Gulf countries.

Dismissing the reports, the Ministry categorically stated that no such proposal is presently under consideration. It further clarified that there are no active discussions or negotiations with Oman or any other Gulf nation regarding the project at any level within the Ministry.

The Ministry emphasized that the clarification was being issued to end all speculation surrounding the reported pipeline proposal. It reiterated that the claims circulating in sections of the media do not reflect any ongoing policy initiative or official engagement related to such a project.
